When a tooth is cracked or chipped, or a filling isn’t sufficient for protecting a tooth, your dentist might recommend getting a crown. Dr. Silvers offers same-day crowns, making the process quick and convenient using an in-office CEREC machine.
The key benefit of a same-day crown is not having to use a temporary crown while waiting for the permanent one to be made. Temporary crowns can break or come off, and they are rough and uncomfortable, limiting what you can eat.
These days, same-day crowns are just as good as conventional crowns. Modern digital scanning technology makes highly accurate crowns. And although traditional crowns used to be made by hand by highly skilled lab technicians, now when dentists order a crown from a lab, it is often made the same way as a same-day crown.
Dr. Silvers makes crowns right in her office, with a combination of advanced digital technology, a milling machine, and hand-crafting. First, she’ll anesthetize the area and prepare the tooth for the crown. Then she does a digital scan of your teeth and bite. She designs the crown right there, a process most patients enjoy watching. Once the crown is made, Dr. Silvers does the custom staining and glazing herself. After she cements it to the tooth with a bonded material, you’ll be ready to go, with virtually no limitations on what you can eat that day.
Same-day crowns are an option for almost anyone needing a crown. If several crowns are needed, or if the crown will be placed on a front tooth, Dr. Silvers might recommend a traditional crown. After an evaluation, she’ll give you all your options so you can decide what’s best for you.
